It’s a news roundup!
There’s just been a lot happening in the Wellington region in the last few weeks. Here’s stuff that may’ve slipped past your nose…
In no particular order…
- It’s actually real! The Golden Mile revitalisation is officially underway!
- Cities and neighbourhoods: they’re complex ecosystems, they’re always changing – nice piece on incomings and outgoings in Te Aro
- Also breaking ground is the new mega-ferry terminal (but the new government might need to stump up more cash)
- Porirua’s much-fêted adventure park won’t be getting any more public money (sensibly, we reckon), but it’s still moving forward
- As Wellington builds more safe, connected routes for getting about by bike, more and people are getting into it, even in the grotty weather of winter and Wellington “spring”
- e-scooters will be staying on our roads, streets, and bike lanes (yay) – and footpaths (booo) since Waka Kotahi renewed their special exemption declaration
- 18 new trains for the Lower North Island (but don’t get too excited, they won’t be on line for another five years)
- Public feedback opens, and closes, on whether there should be a “Specified Development Project” established for greenfield development in Porirua
- Major (and fundamentally good) infrastructure projects Te Ara Tupua and Riverlink continue, notwithstanding that irresponsible journalism by RNZ and Stuff
- Wellington’s amazing digital twin lets us see the city in different futures – especially the guaranteed one with sea level rise
What other recent urban-related stuff do you think might’ve slipped under people’s noses?
